My Martial Arts’ Life Journey:
Shaolin Kung Fu – Strive for the Truth
This page is dedicated to the memory of the late Sifu (師傅) Byoung Y. Choi, Kung Fu Master and a man who taught me not only hard work, but patience; not only patience, but dedication; and not only dedication, but perseverance.
Bulmudo Kung Fu
Bulmudo ( Kor . 불무도 , often spelled Bool Moo Do ), also Seonmudo ( Kor . 선무도 , often Sunmudo or Sonmudo; Chinese 佛武道) is a rare , almost unknown Buddhist martial art from Korea, practiced by Seon ( Chan / Zen ) Buddhist monks in the Golgulsa Temple and some other temple complexes. Bulmudo is said to be a direct descendant of the Shàolín Quánfǎ of China . Bul stands for Buddha , Mu for military and Do for way .
The system is authentic traditional Northern Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu. When the Shaolin Temples in China were being burned many monks fled for refuge in other countries. Many of the monks from the Shantung Province fled to Korea. Shantung Province in China is famous for its Praying Mantis and this is why many Kung Fu systems taught in Korea claim to have a Northern Praying Mantis lineage.
